Two New Westminster CPAs honoured with fellowship from CPABC

NEW WESTMINSTER, BC--(Marketwired - February 22, 2018) - New Westminster's Mary Galaugher, FCPA, FCGA, and Tim Howley, FCPA, FCA, have been honoured with a fellowship (FCPA) from the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia (CPABC). The FCPA designation recognizes CPAs who have provided exceptional services to the accounting profession and/or whose achievements in their careers or in their communities have earned them distinction and brought honour to the profession.

Mary Galaugher, FCPA, FCGA, is the chief financial officer of the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV), an organization she joined in 1995. Galaugher has specialized in real estate throughout her career. Her expertise has been critical to REBGV's success and contributed to the REBGV receiving a 2016 gold level Excellence, Innovation, and Wellness Award from Excellence Canada, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing organizational performance. Prior to joining the REGBV, she was with Block Bros. Industries Ltd from 1978 to 1995, holding roles as junior accountant, senior accountant, and finally as corporate controller. In her role as corporate controller, she was instrumental in the employee purchases of the brokerage division of Block Bros. Industries Ltd. in the early 1990s. In the community, Galaugher volunteers her expertise to support various dance organizations, including the Cross Culture Dance Society and the Canadian Dance Teachers Association's B.C. Branch. She is also part of a family-owned dance studio, where she raises funds to support youth participation in the performing arts. Galaugher is also highly regarded for her contributions to the accounting profession. She obtained her designation in B.C. in 1999.

Tim Howley, FCPA, FCA, is the chief financial officer of the Mark Anthony Group of Companies, an organization he joined in 2005. Howley has used his leadership skills to help build the infrastructure necessary to support the company's growth and to facilitate strategic transactions. Prior to his role at Mark Anthony Group, Howley had worked at A&B Sound, first as its CFO and then its CEO. There, he helped restructure the company's retail and real estate operations, and then steered the company through a challenging divestment of the retail business in 2005. Before entering the corporate world, Howley was a forensic accountant who has led over 400 financial investigations and testified as an expert witness more than 40 times. Howley also shares his expertise with the accounting profession and the greater community. He has contributed as a member of YPO, a global network of chief executives, since 2002. From 2010 to 2013, he was a board director of YPO Gold, the organization's group for professionals over 50 years of age.
