Two Prominent Lawyers Honoured With Bar Award

CBABC Georges A. Goyer QC Memorial Award

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Nov. 8, 2013) - The Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch (CBABC) recognized two remarkable BC lawyers at the 2013 Annual Bench and Bar Dinner where members of the legal community gathered to celebrate the profession and award outstanding individuals. Both Mr. Glenn Gallins QC and Mr. Donald J. Sorochan QC were bestowed the CBABC's highest honour - the Georges A. Goyer QC Memorial Award presented by BC Branch President, Dean Crawford.

The annual Georges A. Goyer QC Memorial Award was created in 1992 to recognize exceptional contributions to the advancement of the law and the legal profession, to jurisprudence, or to the law in British Columbia. The award was established in memory of Georges A. Goyer QC, a respected member of the BC Branch, who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

The 2013 recipients are both accomplished BC lawyers who have contributed to the advancement of the profession; Glenn Gallins QC is a distinguished lawyer and director at the University of Victoria Law Centre and Donald J. Sorochan, QC is an accomplished criminal justice lawyer who has dedicated his service to both his firm Miller Thomson in Vancouver as well as countless pro bono initiatives.

"Without question, both Mr Gallins and Mr Sorochan have truly raised the bar for the profession and the public interest here in BC," stated Dean Crawford, president of the CBABC. "The exceptional contributions of both these members are remarkable; from published reports, submissions, and books to legislative law reform and particularly the delivery of legal services to less fortunate members of society. Both BC lawyers are deserving candidates of the CBABC Goyer Award and we are delighted to be able to recognize them for their outstanding dedication to the people of British Columbia."
