U-Be-Livin-Smart Launches Feed 88 Million Program in Canada to Fight Growing Prevalence of Food-Insecurity

Canadian, Nutrient-Dense Food Maker Unveils Unique Business Model for Food Donation

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - Oct 24, 2013) - U-Be-Livin-Smart (UBLS), an innovative, new provider of healthy, affordable nutrient-dense food products, made public in Canada today its Feed 88 Million program. Underway since the company's inception, the program aims to feed 88 million undernourished, underprivileged people in North America over the next decade and has fed over 60,000 people since January.

U-Be-Livin-Smart began selling to retailers in January 2013, and is dedicated to delivering nutrient-dense, deliciously smart food. The company's "Karma"ffin products are nutrient-dense muffins that deliver nine grams of protein, one whole serving of fruits and vegetables, four grams of fiber and only 130 calories per muffin. The muffins are also gluten and nut-free, have no added oil, salt, sugar or additives and preservatives.

When asked to participate as the only Canadian Food Product in gift bags at the News and Documentary Emmy's held in New York City -- the company made its U.S. program public earlier this month and is now rolling out the program with ongoing donations in Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon and Toronto.

"U-Be-Livin-Smart's Feed 88 Million initiative is right in-line with our vision that no one need ever go hungry in the communities we serve," said Tonia Krauser, Director of Communications for Second Harvest, one of the largest food rescue programs in Canada. "Second Harvest is thrilled to receive nutritious muffin donations which we will then deliver to hungry men, women and children throughout Toronto. We are proud to partner with U-Be-Livin-Smart to feed those in need."

Edmonton Food Bank's Tamisan Bencz-Knight said, "We are excited about the generous support from U-Be-Livin-Smart and this new partnership. 'Karma'ffins offer sound nutrition in a tasty package for adults and children and are suitable for anyone on a gluten restricted diet."

"We are delighted to announce our Feed 88 Million program within the Canadian markets," said Tim Sinclair co-founder, U-Be-Livin-Smart. "Our product is donated in the same community a purchaser lives. For example, if a consumer lives in Vancouver, that small and simple act will feed a needy person in Vancouver. We are working to build a company and communities that provide food donations in partnership with our consumers, to those in need, while delivering a truly nutritious product. The goal is to help consumers eat healthier whether they purchase the product directly or receive our food through a local food bank."

"We greatly appreciate U-Be-Livin-Smart's kind consideration of our organization with the Feed 88 Million program," said Aart Schuurman Hess, CEO, Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society. "Their commitment to give back by way of a nutritionally robust product helps improve the overall health of our community."

Executive Director of the Saskatoon Food Bank, Laurie O'Connor said, "We believe strongly in offering nutritious food to our community and this product meets so many vital nutritional needs. We think the concept of Feed 88 Million is absolutely fantastic. It's great to see a business that is so deeply invested in giving back."

The Feed 88 Million program, is baked into the company's business model, and is as important as profit. Consumers -- through their purchase of "Karma"ffins along with U-Be-Livin-Smart -- feed one needy individual at a local food bank in that person's community. Shoppers can know that with their food brand decision to buy a U-Be-Livin-Smart product, they are directly responsible for positively impacting individuals in their own communities. The program is also being run in U.S. cities like Dallas, Buffalo and New York City, and will be broadly available as the company expands into more markets.

Nutrient Dense
Eating a nutrient rich diet is beneficial in many ways and can help reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer. The Aggregate Nutrient Density Index (ANDI) is a score assigned to whole foods that contain the highest nutrients per calorie by analyzing the many nutrients in a food product. U-Be-Livin-Smart utilizes a patent process to protect the integrity of nutrients found in healthy foods while at the same time making the products with no additives or preservatives. Starting with ten pounds of raw ingredients, this process transforms them into one pound of delicious healthy food without losing any of the nutrient and micro-nutrient value. The process is patented due to the complexity of making these products without additives or preservatives while maintaining all the nutrient value of the non-processed ingredients.

U-Be-Livin-Smart produces healthy, great tasting, nutrient-dense foods and snacks. Founded by an experienced food industry team, U-Be-Livin-Smart is launching four affordable food lines in 2013, led by their "Karma"ffin -- Muffins. Focused on delicious muffins and other unique nutrient dense products with no additives or preservatives, U-Be-Livin-Smart also works diligently to fight hunger and undernourishment in communities throughout North America.
