U-Be-Livin-Smart Launches Feed 88 Million Program in the U.S.

Nutrient-Dense Food Maker Feeds 18,000 Muffins to Children and Adults at the Food Bank for New York City and Fuels Emmy Attendees With Gift Bag Treats

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - Oct 2, 2013) -  U-Be-Livin-Smart (UBLS), an innovative, new provider of healthy, affordable nutrient-dense food products, announced today the official launch of its Feed 88 Million program in the U.S. Underway since the company's inception, the program aims to feed 88 million undernourished, underprivileged people in North America in the next decade and has fed over 60,000 people since January.

U-Be-Livin-Smart, a start-up that began selling to retailers in January 2013, is dedicated to delivering nutrient-dense, deliciously smart food. The company's "Karma"ffin products are nutrient dense muffins that deliver seven grams of protein, one whole serving of fruits and vegetables, three grams of fiber and only 140 calories per muffin. The muffins are also gluten and nut free, have no added oil, salt, sugar or additives and preservatives.

The company was invited to participate in the News and Documentary Emmy's prestigious gift bag this year and drove a truck to New York to make a muffin drop to hungry Emmy-goers. As part of its mission to Feed 88 Million, they also fed 18,000 nutrient dense muffins to children and adults at The Food Bank for New York City.

"We currently feed approximately 410,000 people per day with a need to feed 1.4 million in the New York area," said Lee Cheney, Food Fund Sourcing Manager, Food Bank for New York City. "Due to the number of people we feed daily, and an increasing focus to provide nutritional food, the donation from U-Be-Livin-Smart has been extraordinary and helps us meet our breakfast needs. More than one-third of our food bank users are under 18 and the majority (99%) are not having breakfast."

"We were thrilled to be asked to participate in the Emmy's," said Tim Sinclair co-founder, U-Be-Livin-Smart. "There is record hunger and lack of good nutrition in North America and a long time ago some of us were among those who needed nutrition and didn't have it. We want to build a brand that provides nutrient-dense, deliciously smart products while allowing consumers to impact their community positively with every purchase."

The Feed 88 Million program, is baked into the company's business model, and is as important as profit. For every package of "Karma"ffins bought in a community, U-Be-Livin-Smart feeds one needy individual at a local food bank so its consumers really can impact their own communities when they make their food brand choices. The program is now underway in Dallas, Buffalo, Toronto, Vancouver with more cities joining monthly.

In addition to New York, the company has been working with the North Texas Food Bank to deliver muffins on a quarterly basis to a hugely under-served population.

"Currently we provide access to 175,000 nutritious meals a day but there is actually a need for 300,000 meals a day," said Courtney Martin, Corporate Engagement Specialist, North Texas Food Bank. "U-Be-Livin-Smart's business model is truly inspiring. We are excited to partner with the company to help them reach their goal of feeding 88 million hungry people."

Nutrient Dense
Eating a nutrient rich diet is beneficial in many ways and can help reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer. The Aggregate Nutrient Density Index (ANDI) is a score assigned to whole foods that contain the highest nutrients per calorie by analyzing the many nutrients in a food product. U-Be-Livin-Smart utilizes a patent process to protect the integrity of nutrients found in healthy foods while at the same time making the products with no additives or preservatives. Starting with ten pounds of raw ingredients, this process transforms them into one pound of delicious healthy food without losing any of the nutrient and micro-nutrient value. The process is patented due to the complexity of making these products without additives or preservatives while maintaining all the nutrient value of the non-processed ingredients.

U-Be-Livin-Smart produces healthy, great tasting, nutrient-dense foods and snacks. Founded by an experienced food industry team, U-Be-Livin-Smart is launching four affordable food lines in 2013, led by its flagship product "Karma"ffins. Focused on delicious muffins and other unique nutrient dense products with no additives or preservatives, U-Be-Livin-Smart also works diligently to fight hunger and undernourishment in communities throughout North America.
