u-Nav Extends Orion RX2™ Single-Chip GPS Product Family With a New 800um Pitch BGA Packaging Option

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - May 29, 2007) - u-Nav Microelectronics, a leading developer of one of the world's smallest and lowest power Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers, today introduced a new 800um pitch BGA package option for its Orion RX2™ Single Chip GPS Receiver product family.

The new BGA package option measures just 10x10mm and allows GPS boards and modules to be manufactured using standard Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design techniques. According to Rich Lockwood, Vice President of Sales, "With the explosive growth in the worldwide consumer GPS markets, u-Nav continues to offer product options to meet a wide array of market requirements. We are now offering an 800um pitch package solution to provide our customers the advantages of using standard PCB design rules that results in a shorter design cycle and lower manufacturing cost."

For GPS applications that require small package footprint, the OrionRX2 is also available in the 110-ball, 5.5x5.1mm, 500um pitch Chip-Scale Package, or the 169-ball, 7x7mm, 500um pitch BGA package that provides access to a large number of GPIOs and integrated 10 bit A/D to support applications using dead reckoning sensors.

These package options are offered in the Orion RX2™ family of products that delivers a 20-channel GPS receiver achieving industry leading sensitivity levels of -160dBm.
