UC Irvine Extension Announces Registration Date for High School Summer Institute in Law Program

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwired - Feb 5, 2016) - University of California, Irvine School of Law, in collaboration with University of California, Irvine Extension today announced that registration for The High School Summer Institute in Law program will begin on April 29, 2016. This unique week-long program offers high school students an opportunity to explore the American legal system, gain foundational knowledge of how law influences the nation and local community, and learn and practice relevant skills. The program will run from Aug. 8 through Aug. 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily and will be held on the UC Irvine School of Law campus. For those interested in learning more about the program, an informational webinar is scheduled for Friday, March 18 from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. PST.

"Designed to be a rigorous college-prep program, the High School Summer Institute in Law curriculum is specifically developed by UCI Law faculty to provide students with legal knowledge as well as analytical and communication techniques that will help them during their academic pursuits," said Ian Gibson, Esq., director of Law & Finance at UC Irvine Extension. "In addition to having the incredible experience of learning from UCI Law's renowned faculty, students will gain a broad range of immediately applicable academic and professional skills."

The High School Summer Institute in Law program was created for high school juniors and seniors who are looking to prepare for higher education and have a rigorous and memorable experience. This is an ideal opportunity for those seeking to enhance their college application, who aspire to work in law, and want practice in public speaking, writing, and analytical reasoning. Participants will also develop persuasion techniques, build negotiation skills, and learn about their legal rights and those of others. 

Upon finishing the program, a certificate of completion will be awarded to students by UCI School of Law and UCI Extension. The program fee is $1,110, which includes materials and light refreshments. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available and applications are due by June 19, 2016. Parents of participating students are invited to attend the program closing event on Aug. 12 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., where Erwin Chemerinsky, UCI School of Law Founding Dean and Distinguished Professor of Law, will be providing closing remarks.
