RALEIGH, NC--(Marketwired - August 16, 2016) - UCA International Users Group will be exhibiting at Cigre 2016 (Level 2, stand 229) from 22-26 August 2016 at the Palais des Congrès de Paris, France for the seventh consecutive time, spanning 14 years. The IEC 61850 Users Group (IEC 61850ug), an affiliate of the UCA International Users Group (UCAIug), is sponsoring a live demonstration of equipment working together in a power system using the IEC 61850 power system communication and automation standard.
The demonstration includes power system simulation equipment connected to protection relays and monitoring devices over an IEC 61850 base network, that simulates a common power system failure scenario (breaker failure). The demonstration includes equipment from 14 different suppliers, including Cisco System (USA), DNV-GL (Netherlands), Doble Engineering (USA), EFACEC (Portugal), KERI (Korea), Meinberg (Germany), Moxa (China), NR Electric (China), RTDS Technologies (Canada), Schweitzer Engineering Labs (USA), SISCO (USA), SoC-e (Spain), SUBNET Solutions (Canada) and Triangle MicroWorks (USA).
Recognizing the importance of cyber security, several companies will also demonstrate how to protect these mission critical power systems from hackers and other outside threats, using robust security technology based on the IEC 61850 and IEC 62351 security standards. These important security standards ensure the availability, integrity and confidentiality of the data and assets used throughout the power system.
"This is the seventh consecutive CIGRÉ Session in which the UCAIug has sponsored a booth, and the fifth time that its members have organized a live demonstration to show how the IEC 61850 standard can be used to support a multi-vendor solution used in electric power systems," said Kay Clinard, President, UCA International Users Group.
UCA International Users Group & IEC61850 User Group
UCA International Users Group is a not-for-profit corporation focused on assisting users and vendors in the deployment of standards for real-time applications for several industries with related requirements. The UCAIug and its IEC61850 User Group, draws its membership from utility user and supplier companies. IEC 61850 is an international standard for power system communications based on an engineering process for designing, testing and operating electric power systems that uniquely enables secure multi-vendor interoperability while improving system performance and reducing engineering expense. UCA International Users Group provides a forum in which the various stakeholders in the energy and utility industry can work cooperatively together as members of a common organization.
