Ucore Receives USFS Permitting for Bokan - Dotson Ridge Field Program

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - Sept. 16, 2013) - Ucore Rare Metals Inc. (TSX VENTURE:UCU) (OTCQX:UURAF) ("Ucore" or "the Company") is pleased to report that the United States Forest Service ("USFS") has approved permitting for Ucore's upcoming field program at the Company's Bokan - Dotson Ridge Project in South East Alaska. The planned fieldwork will generate baseline information required for the completion of the final Bankable Feasibility Study, as well as the preparation of the mine construction permit applications including the development of the Plan of Operations described in the July 16, 2013 announcement.

The field program is comprised of two pre-construction development activities:

  • Late Stage Drill Program (infill work, geotechnical program, and monitoring well development).
  • Construction of an Interim Field Camp ("IFC") to serve as a base of operations.

The Late Stage Drill Program and the construction of an IFC are significant mine development activities which will provide information to support engineering designs and advanced scientific studies. The engineering work to develop the mine Plan of Operations is currently being conducted by Knight Piésold Ltd. of Vancouver, B.C., in cooperation with Tetra-Tech Incorporated of Vancouver, B.C. and PND Engineering of Juneau, Alaska.

"The approval of our field program is yet another benchmark on the road to production at Bokan, said Jim McKenzie, President & CEO of Ucore. "Permission to build an onsite camp to replace the Company's former barge-based facility is a significant milestone not granted lightly by the US Forest Service. This achievement, together with Bokan's location in an area already designated for resource development --- known as a USFS Mineral Prescription --- are positive indicators for future development at Bokan. Our thanks to the US Forest Service for the positive outcome of the application and review process."

The Bokan-Dotson Ridge Rare Earth Project is located on federal land managed by the USFS. USFS personnel completed an environmental assessment of the proposed field program and found that the carefully planned activities, combined with prescribed protection measures, would result in no significant impact to the environment in the Bokan area.
