UFA Small Town Heroes 2011 Tour With Paul Brandt Kicks Off Today in Slave Lake

Country Superstar holds meet and greet and performs private concert

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Oct. 11, 2011) - After announcing that the local Fire Department had been named as one of two Grand Prize winners in its Small Town Heroes contest, UFA Co-operative Limited kicked off its annual Small Town Heroes tour in Slave Lake today. The kick off will include a community meet and greet prior to a private concert with Canadian country music superstar Paul Brandt which will honour the entire fire crew.

One nomination describes why these men and women deserved to be chosen as UFA Small Town Heroes: "On May 15th, 2011 a wildfire ravaged the small close-knit northern town of Slave Lake. While over 7,000 residents were fleeing, many brave men and women in the town raced to the fire hall to begin what would be the longest and most emotional week they would face. Fighting with 100 kilometre/hour winds and having to watch their own houses burn while saving countless others, these men and women are the reason our town is still standing and why they are our heroes."

"UFA is proud to recognize members of The Slave Lake Fire Department for their tireless efforts in fighting for and rebuilding the community of Slave Lake," said Bob Nelson, President and CEO, UFA. "These firefighters are real life heroes giving their time and energy, selflessly helping others on a daily basis. It is terrible to think of what was lost at Slave Lake, but thanks to the men and women who volunteered to stay and fight the fire, it is inspiring to think of what was saved."

The UFA Small Town Heroes bus tour with Paul Brandt will stop at several small towns in Alberta between today and Thursday, October 13th. The tour will include meet and greet opportunities at local UFA Farm and Ranch stores and UFA Petroleum agencies. The tour will end in Drayton Valley with a private Paul Brandt concert honouring Jeanette Vatter, the second UFA Small Town Heroes Grand Prize winner.

UFA's annual photo contest also kicked off this morning. During the Small Town Heroes bus tour a picture is worth $1,000 in fuel: fans of UFA and Paul Brandt who submit their photos from the tour will be eligible to win one of five $1,000 UFA fuel cards.
