UJA-Federation of New York Exceeds Goal for Second Year in a Row

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Jul 7, 2011) - Despite a challenging economic environment, UJA-Federation of New York successfully concluded its 2011 Annual Campaign year by exceeding its goal of $136.7 million, closing at $137.4 million. The total resources raised for the year are $188 million, surpassing the amount raised in 2010 by more than $7 million, and including $41.6 million from bequests and planned giving and $9 million from special initiatives and capital funds.

"This is a huge accomplishment in the post-2008 context in which we still find ourselves," said John S. Ruskay, executive vice president and CEO of UJA-Federation. "Such substantial financial support recognizes the unique role UJA-Federation and its agencies play in New York, in Israel, and throughout the world. I want to thank our donors, our volunteer leadership, and our incredible staff for these results and, most important, for what they will make possible."

The dollars, which are allocated to more than 100 beneficiary agencies and other organizations, translate into many types of essential services and programs, including food for the isolated elderly, financial and spiritual guidance for the unemployed, and trips to Israel for young people seeking a connection to their Jewish heritage and the Jewish people. These funds benefit more than 4.5 million people in New York, in Israel, and around the world.

UJA-Federation's annual campaign remains the single largest philanthropic effort by any local community anywhere in the world.
