UL Warns of Potentially Hazardous Decorative Light Strings

NORTHBROOK, IL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- February 16, 2007 -- Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is notifying consumers and retailers that the decorative light string identified below may pose a shock or fire hazard.

Name of Product: 15' Lighted Halloween Garland

Manufacturer: Shanghai Oriental Christmas Light Co Ltd. in Zhejiang, China

Date of Manufacture: Unknown

Hazard: The light strings have undersized wire and insulation that does not comply with UL's Standards for safety and poses a potential electric shock or fire hazard.


On the Product

The product has a UL holographic label attached to the cord with the UL Listing Mark and the following information:

                             P-8378 issue number
                          For Indoor and Outdoor use
A tag attached to the cord has the warning:

CAUTION: 3 Series Connected Light String to reduce the risk of overheating replace burned out lamps promptly. Use 3.4 Volt lamps only .5.
