Third Annual World Ballet Competition -- Orlando, FL

ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwire - February 23, 2009) - The world's ultimate ballet challenge, the Third Annual World Ballet Competition, with prizes totaling up to $100,000, will be staged in Orlando, Florida, USA, June 22 - 27, 2009. Orlando and the Central Florida area are fast becoming one of the most vibrant centers of the performing arts in North America. This event offers an exciting platform for the best-in-the-world ballet dancers to showcase their technical and artistic prowess, and win significant cash prizes and titles.

The competition is sponsored in part by Florida Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs, and is endorsed by Orange County Mayor, Richard T. Crotty, and Orlando City Mayor, Buddy Dyer. Other sponsors are Donors Capital Fund, United Arts of Central Florida, Ginn Resorts, WKMG Local Channel 6, Daniels Manufacturing Corporation, and many more.

The Gala of the Stars, the celebratory culmination of the four-day competition, is one of the most exciting ballet performances anywhere in the world. Winning dancers from around the globe will perform their competition pieces, and in the audience some of the world's most discerning ballet aficionados will be on the lookout for the best ballet talent on earth.

The World Ballet Competition takes place at the Bob Carr Center for the Performing Arts, Orlando Florida, June 22 - 27, 2009; the Gala of the Stars on June 27, at 7pm. Applications must be received by April 15, 2009.

The World Ballet Competition judges are among the best of the best in the ballet world, among them Marat Daukayev, a former star of the Kirov Ballet in St. Petersburg Russia, now Deputy Artistic Director of the prestigious Kirov Academy in Washington, D.C.; Viktor Plotnikov, Ukraine, trained with the Kiev Ballet Academy; and Judith Turos from Romania, former Prima Ballerina with the Bavarian State Ballet.

To qualify to compete in any category -- Individual, Pas de Deux, or Group ensembles, auditions must be made by VHS video or DVD with supporting documentation and US$50 entrance fee, payable to World Ballet Competition, 3306 Maggie Blvd., Suite B, Orlando, Florida 32811, USA, on or before Wednesday, April 15, 2009.

The competition is open to Individual dancers, Pas de Deux and Group dancers for which separate cash prizes and/or Gold, Silver and Bronze titles will be awarded. Introductory (ages 10-11); Preparatory (ages 12-13), Pre-Professional Category (ages 14-17), Professional (ages 18-22). Group Division comprises two categories, Pas de Deux (ages 14-22), and Ensemble (ages 10-22).
