Unbound Has Been Awarded 4 out of 4 Stars by Charity Navigator, With the Highest Score of 100 in the Area of Accountability and Transparency; This Rating Makes Unbound One of the Highest-Rated Child Sponsorship Organizations in the United States

KANSAS CITY, KS--(Marketwired - August 17, 2016) - Unbound has received a 4-star rating, the highest available, from Charity Navigator, America's largest independent charity evaluator, which rates about 8,000 charities nationwide.

Unbound is one of two child sponsorship organizations to receive a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator and the only child sponsorship organization to receive CharityWatch's highest rating, an A+. The organization also meets all 20 rigorous accountability standards established by the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance and receives the distinction of Top-Rated Nonprofit from GreatNonprofits.

"We are pleased that Charity Navigator continues to rate us at 100 percent for accountability and transparency. This rating from Charity Navigator confirms that we live our core value of 'Integrity and Accountability,'" Scott Wasserman, president and CEO of Unbound, said. "Sponsors of children and elders through our organization know that Unbound is a trustworthy means to make a real difference to a real person in need."

According to Michael Thatcher, president and CEO of Charity Navigator, only a quarter of all charities rated by Charity Navigator receive the distinction of a 4-star rating. The top rating places Unbound in a preeminent group of charities working to challenge global poverty.

Charity Navigator recently upgraded its methodology for rating each charity's financial health. A 4-star rating indicates strong financial health and a commitment to accountability and transparency.

Unbound receives a score of 100 out of 100 in the area of accountability and transparency, with an overall score of 92.66 when factoring in financial metrics.

Director of Finance Martin Kraus said Unbound is committed to being good stewards of the resources sponsors and donors entrust to the organization.

"More than 92 percent of all the money Unbound spends goes to program support. This is one of the highest percentages in the industry," Kraus said.

Charity Navigator's long-term goal is to add a "Results Reporting" component, or an assessment of how effective each charity is in accomplishing its mission. Unbound employs a three-tier approach to measuring program effectiveness and outcomes for sponsored individuals and their families. See how Unbound evaluates success.
