ST. THOMAS, US VIRGIN ISLANDS--(Marketwired - September 01, 2016) -
What's the most popular coupon in your state? That's the question online shopping site Brad's Deals wanted to answer for National Coupon Month, which begins September 1.
What they found was a distinctly American love for discounts on crafting supplies and pizza, but also strong regional preferences for certain stores.
"We knew that the crafting and pizza categories were big, but the regional uniformity that emerged really caught us off guard," said Rebecca Lehmann, Manager, Content Marketing. "For DIY projects, the West Coast prefers Michaels while Hobby Lobby dominates the South and Great Plains. It's fascinating to see a single store virtually owning coupon searches for an entire region."
Other regional trends stuck out as well. Target wins its home state of Minnesota, Macy's in New England, and Kohl's in the Great Lakes region.
The research, gleaned from Google Trends and 15 years of Brad's Deals' own data, did not include coupons for single products. "We focused on shopping destinations rather than individual products," Lehmann said. "We wanted to know where people preferred to shop."
The top 10 most popular coupons for every state, along with a map infographic and additional insight from the project can be found on Brad's Deals' blog, More For Less.
