Unidine Acquires FAME Food Management Company to Fuel Growing Demand for Fresh Approach to Dining Services

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - February 05, 2015) - Unidine Corporation®, the fastest growing food and dining management services company in the country, announced today that it has completed the acquisition and integration of Boston-based FAME Food Management, Inc. for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition extends Unidine's services into the government and education sectors, adding to the company's growing foothold in healthcare, senior living and corporate dining.

The addition of FAME, as well as new healthcare clients like Northeast Georgia Health System and Franciscan Hospital for Children, contributed to Unidine's 24 percent growth in 2014, with sales reaching $250 million. As the first food management services company to commit to exclusive use of fresh ingredients and scratch cooking, Unidine is poised to capitalize on growing demand for culinary excellence in the $44.8 billion food service management industry.

FAME's portfolio of clients in Massachusetts, Washington, D.C. and Maryland includes the U.S. Government Publishing Office, Transportation Safety Administration, the John Carroll School, Mass Bay Community College and Bristol Community College. "FAME's market and geographic penetration, along with a shared commitment to exceptional service and customized culinary experiences, serve as a perfect complement to Unidine's expanding portfolio," explained Richard Schenkel, Unidine's founder and CEO. "We are laser focused on revolutionizing what was once simply known as institutional dining to meet the expectations of today's consumers while serving our clients' business objectives."

Unidine's growth has been fueled by a model called Lead With Dining℠ that supports customer acquisition, brand expression and employee recruitment strategies while containing expenses. Healthcare and purchasing executives are discovering that scratch cooking is generally a more cost effective model that also supports the local economy by facilitating collaboration with local farmers, bakeries and fish mongers, and local purchasing collaboratives.

"The real value in outsourced services comes when the relationship is strategic. This is a win-win solution whose time has come," Schenkel said, adding that he hopes the Unidine approach will eventually revolutionize food management services beyond his company's reach.

In 2014 Unidine served 32 million meals across 20 states and employed approximately 4,200 people. FAME Culinary Group will continue to operate as a separate corporate entity in the Unidine portfolio, which now includes a Healthcare Culinary Group, Senior Living Culinary Group and Corporate Culinary Group.
