Unified Pictures Starts 2007 With Two Films, Two More to Come

Writer/Director Michael A. Nickles' "XII" Completes Principal Photography

"The Perfect Sleep" Being Readied for Distribution

"Beneath the Shadows" Lands Inland Empire's Jeremy Alter

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- February 16, 2007 --Unified Pictures has announced the completion of principal photography on its latest project, writer/director Michael A. Nickles' feature film "XII" in Los Angeles.

A smart, stylish horror thriller -- about a small town jury who suddenly has to face the man they may have wrongly convicted five years earlier, "XII" stars Steven Brand ("The Scorpion King"), Mercedes McNab ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel"), Nick Searcy ("Tigerland"; "Cast Away" and "Flicka") and newcomer Emily Hardy. The film was shot on location in Las Vegas and Los Angeles as well as at Unified's own 10,000 square-foot studio and editing facilities located in Northridge, deep in the San Fernando Valley.

"We were extremely excited to work with an extraordinary talent such as Nickles and we shared his desire and passion for making films as opposed to talking about making them," said "XII" Executive Producer Ben Ruffman.

Unified Pictures CEO and "XII" producer Keith Kjarval adds, "Given his experience and successful track record in the independent film world, we felt Michael was the perfect choice to helm our next film. The combination of the underserved demand for horror films combined with Michael's incredible ability to soak a film with atmosphere and soul leads us to believe 'XII' will be an overwhelming success."

Nickles wrote, produced, and directed two multiple award-winning feature films, "This Is Not A Film" and "Desert Winds," starring Heather Graham, and was a cinematographer on cult favorite "Hands on a Hard Body." He said, "I have wanted to make a film with these guys for quite a long time as I share their enthusiasm and commitment for film. The mutual respect and collaboration makes me certain we will make a remarkable film."

Unified has also recently completed the feature film "The Perfect Sleep," Jeremy Alter's directorial debut ("Inland Empire"), which stars Roselyn Sanchez (Disney's "The Game Plan"). A noir thriller, "The Perfect Sleep" was edited by Martin Hunter ("Full Metal Jacket" and "Underworld"). Unified is currently shopping "The Perfect Sleep" to US distributors. Unified's most recent film "Don't Move," starring (recent Oscar nominee) Penelope Cruz, is currently being distributed on Home Video by TWC/Genius.

Finally Unified has announced its next project, "Beneath the Shadows" -- described as "The Shawshank Redepmtion" meets "Jacob's Ladder" -- to be helmed by Jeremy Alter. "Beneath the Shadows" is expected to go before the cameras in September 2007. Alter also just co-produced David Lynch's "Inland Empire" -- scenes from which were shot in Unified's studios. The company expects to shoot two additional films from among its films in development in 2007.

"Having produced multiple films, distributed another, and provided a sound stage and editing facilities for several films, we feel confident Unified is well positioned to take a film from inception to distribution," concludes Kjarval. "Unified's goal is to become a mini-studio; to have as many of the means of film production under one roof: production facilities, sound stages, editing bays, an animation studio and production offices."
