Unilever and Shoparoo Partner to Put Money Back Into Schools' Budgets

Scanned Walmart Receipts Turn Into 2X Cash Contributions Thanks to Unilever Brands

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Sep 11, 2012) - Today Unilever, one of the world's leading suppliers of consumer packaged goods, has partnered with Shoparoo, a free mobile app that turns every grocery receipt into school fundraising dollars, to double the money schools receive when parents shop at Walmart. When people buy Ragu, Skippy, Country Crock, Knorr, Breyers, Hellmann's, Dove, Axe, Degree, Suave, Vaseline, or Ponds products at Walmart, they simply snap a picture of their receipt with Shoparoo for an instantly doubled donation to be made to the school of their choice.

"Unilever is dedicated to serving consumers and the communities where we live, work and play. Through Shoparoo, we've found a simple, yet effective way to help fulfill this mission and say 'thank you' to the people who buy our brands by providing cash donations to their local schools," said Dawn Hedgepeth, Shopper Marketing Director, Unilever. "We're proud to partner with Shoparoo to double the donation value of Walmart receipts containing Ragu, Skippy, Hellmann's and so many of our outstanding brands."

Shoparoo helps people raise funds for schools by simply snapping a photo of any grocery receipt with their smartphone. Shoparoo awards "Roo Points" for every receipt submitted which are then converted into a cash donation to the school of the shopper's choosing. Now, receipts from Walmart containing Unilever brands will be worth twice as much to schools as other receipts; what is worth 5-cents to a school will now be worth 10-cents thanks to Unilever. With most families buying groceries several times a week, these nickels and dimes can add up to thousands of dollars for a school each year.

After only a few weeks in the market, Shoparoo is already benefiting more than 500 schools in 43 states with dozens more schools joining every day. The popularity and quick adoption is due to how easy Shoparoo makes it for schools and parents to raise money -- there is nothing to buy, sell, collect or turn-in. Parents and other supporters simply go about their normal daily shopping and then add a quick picture snap of their receipt to make an instant donation to their local school. Every K-12 school in America is eligible -- there's no registration -- and it takes just seconds for anyone to begin fundraising for their local school.

"Buying and selling candy, cookie dough & wrapping paper, and so many other traditional school fundraisers put a lot of burden on families," said Jared Schrieber, the co-founder and CEO of Shoparoo. "Shoparoo eliminates the burden of fundraising. And now, with support from Unilever, we are able to make fundraising with Shoparoo even more impactful by doubling the donation value of each qualifying receipt. Suddenly, a jar of Skippy or Hellmann's for children's sandwiches means a lot more to families and their schools."

The Shoparoo app is available for free on the iPhone from the App Store at http://itunes.apple.com/app/shoparoo/id549616361 and for Android at Google Play at http://goo.gl/YIuI8.
