Uniquely Designed Adult Day Care Center Opens in Kensington, Brooklyn

Center Design Plays Key Role in Effective Daytime Care for Seniors

BROOKLYN, NY--(Marketwired - March 06, 2014) -  With the goal to create a new kind of social adult day care, the Kensington center opens with a unique design of multiple small rooms, as opposed to the large banquet hall type day care facilities commonly found in New York City.

The first of its kind in New York, this unique design offers participants a choice of several cozy rooms where they can enjoy an intimate, home-like atmosphere, rather than having to spend their time in a large, noisy room with a crowd of participants. Each room features its own design and may be used for multiple purposes such as art projects, games, exercise, or rest.

Says Robert F. Carr of the National Institute of Building Science on the topic of health care facility design, "The facility conveys a message to patients, visitors, volunteers, vendors, and staff. It communicates a torrent of clues about the organization and the care being provided there. Ideally, that message is one that conveys welcoming, caring, comfort, and compassion, commitment to patient well-being and safety, where stress is relieved, refuge is provided, respect is reciprocated, competence is symbolized, way-finding is facilitated, and families are accommodated." - Source

This unique design of the Kensington center, along with its location within a residential neighborhood, offers a calm and peaceful escape from the busy city, as well as structured cognitive and physical stimulation, socialization, and supervision allowing the senior to remain in their home community for as long as possible.

About Social Adult Day Care Centers of NY: Our center provides seniors with needed care, socialization, and supervision in a community setting as well as provide caregivers respite from the demanding responsibilities of caregiving.

As an alternative to long-term care, adult day care allows seniors with diminishing physical, mental, and/or psychological capacity to maintain optimal independence so they can remain in their own homes or with loved ones and benefit from social interaction and stimulation throughout the day.
