Uniserve Acquires Kootenay Internet Service, Further Expanding Presence in Rural Consumer Markets

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 25, 2006) - Uniserve Communications Corporation (TSX VENTURE:USS), one of Western Canada's largest independent communications companies delivering voice and data communications services across the country announced today that it has finalized the acquisition of Kootenay Internet Service (K.I.S.) in Creston British Columbia. The acquisition included the cooperative transition of K.I.S. customers over to Uniserve's network infrastructure expanding service and product options for the customer base. Through this transition, 829 or 95% of K.I.S. customers have electively transitioned their communication services over to Uniserve reinforcing that the transition strategy was on track. Uniserve is committed to expanding services and bringing best-in-class communication products to rural markets across Canada.

"We found ourselves in a situation where we couldn't continue to grow our business and stay competitive but we certainly did not want to leave our loyal customers in a bind" said Bob Griffith President and Owner of K.I.S. "Uniserve offers an extremely strong service offering and an expanded range of products to serve the needs of the K.I.S. customer base. I can stand tall in my community knowing that Uniserve has won the Consumers Choice Award for service excellence 7 times. Best of all, many of our customers will have significant savings while not one K.I.S. customer will have increased costs for the service that we provided, to me that sounds like a win-win for everyone." K.I.S. started in 1995 as a local service provider helping to develop connectivity in the Creston Valley, an area that was being overlooked by the incumbents.

"We have established our roots by providing high levels of service, best-in-class communication products and competitive pricing to both urban and rural markets" says Wil Spratt, president and CEO of Uniserve. "K.I.S. is an excellent fit for Uniserve and everyone benefits from this transaction. K.I.S. customers will receive more competitive pricing and expanded product lines such as Long Distance, V.O.I.P, and Fax-to-email with the same personalized service they have come to know. We have a strong commitment to developing products and improving service for Eastern British Columbia specifically the Columbia Valley Region and the East Kootenay's. Rural communities are a strategic focus for Uniserve. Whether it's supporting the Arts in Golden, expanding wireless capabilities in Kimberly or bringing Creston competitive products providing affordable access to other markets, we believe there are tremendous opportunities in rural Canada."
