Unite Amicus Section expresses disappointment at Corus job cuts

WALES, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - July 18, 2007) - Unite Amicus Section has expressed disappointment about news of 94 job cuts at the Corus Packaging Plus plant in Trostre near Llanelli.

The company which makes steel for use in the food and drink industry announced the job cuts today as a result of lost orders.

Dave Gibbs, Unite Amicus Section's, National Officer for the Metal industry, said:

"We are disappointed by the number of job losses being made at the Corus Trostre plant but we understand that the company is experiencing strong competition and difficult market conditions.

"We will insist that the redundancies are only made following consultation and that they are made on a non-compulsory basis. We will work with the company on an ongoing basis to ensure that the organisation is in a strong position going forward."
Corus is one of the largest employers in South Wales. The Trostre plant employs 800 people in total.
