Unite Amicus Section on the Walker report

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - July 17, 2007) - Unite Amicus section today denounced the Walker report on proposed reforms to private equity firms as a missed opportunity to clean up their act.

The union was highly critical of private equity firms lack of transparency and tax advantages in its evidence to the Treasury Select Committee inquiry last month.

Paul Talbot commenting on the Walker Report said:

"The report has failed to give clarity on disclosure and has avoided tackling the crucial issue of tax advantage enjoyed by these companies. The suggested appointment of non-executive directors does nothing to add confidence to our members whose jobs are frequently put at risk through private equity buy outs. Self regulation and friends on the board will never provide the safeguards that are so necessary for workers."
