Derek Simpson, Unite Joint General Secretary said:

"Alan Johnson deliberately misses the point in his speech on work life balance. The government is turning a blind eye to the long hours culture of the UK.

The real concern is not how poor employers are suffering from loss of business but how to protect employees from the greed of their bosses, being made ill and missing out on family time from being over worked.

Without the government preventing employers working their employees into an early grave no amount of fitness advice will help workers get and stay healthy."
