Unite reaction to the New Testament Church of God v. Stewart judgement

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Oct. 19, 2007) -

Rachael Maskell, Unite National officer for the not for profit sector, said:

"This marks a historic judgment. Unite has been campaigning for 13 years for its clergy members to be recognised as employees and today's historic judgment concludes this debate. This ruling will finally entitle ministers to the same employment rights as all other employees.

"As well as being just and fair this will vastly improve the working lives of all church ministers, offering them the protection that most workers take for granted. Prior to this judgment a minister could lose their job, vocation and home without recourse, from today this injustice can never happen again."

Unite the union represents 2,500 ministers of religion.
