LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Aug. 22, 2007) -

Attention: voluntary and housing trade press

Unite Britain's biggest union has secured the right to represent staff collectively at Liverpool based, Pierhead Housing Association.

The CAC (Central Arbitration Committee), the body set up by the government to oversee union recognition claims has ruled that, Unite "should be recognised for collective bargaining purposes by Pierhead Housing Association for a bargaining unit comprising of all contracted non-executive staff up to and including the position of manager". Unite will now represent roughly 35 staff working at the housing association.

Unite, National Secretary Rachael Maskell says,

"We thank the CAC for recognising that our members have the right to collectively negotiate their pay, terms and conditions at Pierhead Housing. The CAC decision was very clear cut and in favour of recognition for Unite.

Unite will be working to build a constructive working relationship with the employer and looks forward to representing the staff in a professional and effective manner."
