Unite to oppose any compulsory job cuts at car parts manufacturer

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - July 17, 2007) - Unite the Union will oppose any compulsory job cuts at car parts manufacturer Quinton Hazell Automotive Ltd in North Wales.

The company, who make clutches and water pumps, plan to move 120 of its' 180 jobs from their Colwyn Bay plant to AP Driveline Technologies Ltd in Leamington Spa.

Unite (Amicus section) Regional Officer, John Hamilton, said:
"We are shocked at these proposals to make 120 staff redundant and we now have the statutory 90 day notice to mitigate any job losses.

"The union and our members are very concerned with regard to the fact that we were not involved in any consultation as part of the partnership agreement which has been in operating in the past few years.

"We would like be have been involved in the influential stage and will continue to work with the local management to mitigate any compulsory job losses."

A meeting has now been planned with Quinton Hazell management this Thursday (19th July) where the union will discuss how job cuts can be minimised.
