LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Feb 20, 2014) - unite4:good (www.unite4good.org), the global movement for humanity, announces Martin Scorsese as the recipient of the Variety Creative Conscience Award, Demi Lovato as the recipient of the Young Luminary Award and John Sykes as the recipient of the Media Social Visionary Award at the first ever unite4:humanity event in association with Variety (www.variety.com) during a ceremony at the Sony Lot in Los Angeles on Thursday, February 27.
They will join honorees Alicia Keys (Music Visionary), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Creative Commitment in Television Award), Selena Gomez (Young Humanitarian) along with five everyday heroes who will also be presented with the Inspiration Award by special guest Wilmer Valderrama. Special guest Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will present Julia Louis-Dreyfus with her award.
Oscar® award-winning director Martin Scorsese will be honored for his work with The Film Foundation, a nonprofit organization he established in 1990, dedicated to protecting and preserving motion picture history by providing annual support for preservation and restoration projects at the leading film archives. Since its inception, the foundation has helped save over 600 motion pictures. Scorsese will be recognized for using his influence and voice to raise awareness about the urgent need for film preservation.
Multi-platinum recording artist Demi Lovato will be recognized for her outstanding work in creating and supporting programs that directly and positively impact the lives of others through the Free the Children and We Day organizations, igniting social causes through awareness and contribution.
President of Clear Channel Entertainment Enterprises John Sykes will be honored for his demonstration of philanthropic leadership in the business of media and entertainment. Sykes has co-produced some of the industry's most recognizable benefit concerts including, "12-12-12" (A Concert for Sandy Relief) and "The Concert for New York City" (9/11 benefit) with Harvey Weinstein and James Dolan. He is also responsible for creating impactful pro-social campaigns including the VH1 Save the Music Foundation and "iHeartRadio's Show Your Stripes." Additionally, Sykes has served the New York community as a Board Member of the Robin Hood Foundation for nearly two decades.
The evening will commence with a cocktail party featuring a special performance by Lindsey Stirling, one of the biggest artist development breakthrough stories in recent years with more than half a billion views on YouTube. The YouTube phenomenon merges classically-trained violin stylings with electronic dub-step beats, electrifying audiences worldwide.
The first-of-its-kind live performance art group, TellAvision has been one of the most talked about and venerated acts in "America's Got Talent" history and will open the award ceremony dazzling the audience with their unique vision of a moving storybook by seamlessly blending wireless technology, music and dance to choreographed video screens synced with live performers.
The evening will also feature a musical set from Demi Lovato and Alicia Keys will take to the stage to conclude the night with a special performance for all event honorees and attendees.
