United Data Technologies Brings Successful Technology Deployments to Orange County Public School District

UDT's Southeast Region Configuration Center Delivers Innovation, Speed and Operational Efficiencies to School Districts Battling Budget Deficits

ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwire - May 5, 2011) - The nation's school districts are bracing for major budget cuts this year, requiring school IT directors to seek innovative ways to reduce operational costs and streamline their delivery methods and processes.

The Orange County Public School District (OCPS), the fifth largest school district in Florida and eleventh largest in the U.S., found its silver lining by tapping into United Data Technologies' new configuration center in Orlando. This brand-new 15,000 square foot state-of-the art facility provides the OCPS and many other school districts with just-in-time delivery of their IT assets; essentially eliminates equipment theft; and guarantees a zero failure rate for installments. UDT also engineers a green IT component to their services by limiting packaging, shipping and significantly improving recycling.

OCPS' IT Director Hermes Mendez credits UDT's innovative processes and solutions with delivering significant cost and efficiency improvements district-wide.

"UDT helped us solve one of our biggest challenges: getting new schools opened on time, effectively and within a very short timeframe," states Mendez. "Today each unit is delivered just in time, in perfect working order, with accurate district imaging, and with security and software applications already pre-loaded. Yet, all these services didn't cost us a penny more beyond the confines of our existing contract."

This year marks the OCPS' third successful year with United Data Technologies (UDT), and by entrusting the Miami-based IT firm with more of its technology operations functions, the school district is enjoying substantial costs savings.

Thomas McNabb, the district's Assistant Director of IT, sees a "drastic difference" from the deployments of the past.

"Our district personnel no longer have to spend weeks onsite supervising installations or worrying about finding secure storage for the equipment," he explained. "We can now deploy a large school in less than a day. If we have to change priorities or schedules, UDT changes right along with us."Mendez states:"The value UDT has brought us in time and cost savings is just tremendous."

Mendez and McNabb also credit UDT with helping on many other strategic fronts, bringing unusual breadth and depth in consultative expertise to issues like network security, virtualization, as well as helping OCPS source strong vendors and streamline district processes.

"Our relationship with UDT is a true strategic partnership and goes beyond the typical client/vendor relationship," said Mendez. "They always come to us armed with solutions to our problems. They do whatever it takes to get the job done when other firms couldn't or wouldn't."

The UDT configuration center, located in South Orlando, supports school districts, government and commercial clients with leading-edge warehousing, logistics, imaging, network device configuration and onsite installation services. School districts use the facility to store equipment; pre-load approved images prior to onsite installations; and coordinate individual branch or schools' installations end-to-end. In addition, UDT also helps organizations meet their green IT initiatives through UDT-recycled packaging. Finally, UDT performs laser engraving of equipment to ensure consistency and loss prevention measures and provide standardization of equipment.
