James Torgerson to Offer Insights on Role of Smart Grid in Integration of Gas and Renewables

BURLINGTON, MA--(Marketwire - May 16, 2011) - The United Illuminating Company's CEO, James Torgerson will be a featured speaker at KEMA's fourth annual Utility of the Future Leadership Forum, "Shaping the Future." Torgerson will be part of the senior executive panel examining the role of natural gas in the emerging smart grid-enabled utility future at the KEMA forum, June 6-8, 2011, at The Four Seasons, Denver, Colo.

Torgerson will share insights into the evolving roles of natural gas and smart grid technologies in building a safe, secure, and sustainable energy future. He will join the CEOs of the Gas Technology Institute, Avista and Questar for the panel session discussion "Gas - Part of the New Smart Grid Paradigm" on Tuesday, June 7.

"The integration of intermittent renewables with natural gas generating assets has increasingly become a priority with the recent growth of renewables," said Torgerson. "The evolution of a smart transmission grid will play a critical role in enabling a more coherent and dynamic approach to integration."

The 2011 Utility of the Future forum features one and one-half days of discussion about industry game changers, new business models, and changing the traditional roles of utilities, customers, and suppliers. Executive-level panel discussions will focus on CEOs' views of the future utility: the road to sustainability, gas as part of the smart grid paradigm, the integration of new and ever-changing technologies, and consumer and 'prosumer' engagement. Throughout the forum, there will be high-level networking opportunities to share perspectives, collaborate, and engage in dialog.

Senior executives are invited to join their peers in the Utility of the Future discussion to share ideas and discover opportunities to shape a more sustainable, reliable, profitable utility of the future. To register and learn more, visit: www.kema.com/UtilityFuture2011.
