United Way of Canada-Centraide Canada and CUETS Partner for National Children's Initiative

REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 26, 2005) - United Way of Canada-Centraide Canada and CUETS are pleased to introduce their new partnership that will invest in the nation's future - its children.

Today, CUETS, the Regina-based national MasterCard service provider for hundreds of credit unions, caisses populaires and other clients, announced that its popular MasterCard-based CHOICE REWARDS loyalty program will give its cardholders across the country the option to donate the points they earn to the United Way of Canada-Centraide Canada and receive a corresponding charitable donation tax receipt. The points will be donated to United Way of Canada-Centraide Canada's National Children's Initiative.

"United Way of Canada-Centraide Canada is excited about our new partnership with CUETS' CHOICE REWARDS program," says Al Hatton, President and CEO, United Way of Canada-Centraide Canada. "Credit unions across Canada are strong supporters of United Ways and CUETS has deepened that commitment nationally with Credit Union MasterCard cardholders having the opportunity to support United Way of Canada-Centraide Canada's National Children's Initiative. I want to thank CUETS for their leadership in developing this program, and commend their belief, shared with United Ways across Canada, that investing in children and their families represents a commitment to a better future for all Canadians."

United Way of Canada-Centraide Canada's National Children's Initiative will raise awareness of the importance of children initiatives; strengthen the ability of communities to contribute to their children's success; build a comprehensive and accessible continuum of community services and support; and influence public policy to focus on solutions.

CUETS Chief Executive Officer Stan Kuss said partnering with United Way of Canada-Centraide Canada was a natural fit for the organization that provides MasterCard products and services to over 450 credit unions, caisses populaires and other organizations. "CUETS has proudly supported the United Way through its annual employee giving campaign and the Day of Caring® in our hometowns of Regina and Winnipeg. Over the years, our employees have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars, and countless volunteer hours to the United Ways of Regina and Winnipeg," says Kuss. "CUETS supports the United Way of Canada-Centraide Canada because its fundamental philosophy of strengthening and sustaining the community is very much in line with our cooperative roots, and our corporate value that success starts from within."

Every time CHOICE REWARDS MasterCard cardholders use their card at one of 24 million locations worldwide they earn points. CHOICE REWARDS points are earned at the rate of one point for every dollar, or every two dollars spent, depending on the card product. The minimum point donation is 2,500 points which equals to a $25 donation. A corresponding charitable tax receipt will be issued to the cardholder.

Based on current CHOICE REWARDS participation of approximately 240,000 Canadians, and the growing consumer interest in charitable giving through points programs, there is the potential to raise between $100,000 to $250,000 annually within three to five years for charity, a share of which will go to the United Way of Canada-Centraide Canada.

The United Way of Canada-Centraide Canada is the second charitable organization to partner with CUETS and the CHOICE REWARDS MasterCard redemption program. In June 2005, the Canadian Cancer Society was the first to join the initiative.
