United Wind Secures Exclusive Financing Partnership With Bergey Windpower

Company Aligns With Leading Turbine Manufacturer to Increase Savings for Customers

BROOKLYN, NY--(Marketwired - Dec 17, 2013) - United Wind, a leading provider of distributed-scale wind energy through its WindLease™ platform, today announced the company's partnership with Bergey WindPower. Under terms of the agreement, United Wind will be the exclusive provider of 3rd party financing options to customers seeking to lower their electricity costs today and into the future using the best-in-class turbines manufactured by Bergey.

The US Department of Energy has been a staunch supporter of alternative energy -- with a goal of wind power comprising 20 percent of all electricity generated by 2030. United Wind accelerates this adoption by helping customers avoid upfront purchasing costs via its unique WindLease program. The company offers affordable financing alternatives, and manages the complexities of processing, permits, and installation.

Underscoring the value of the WindLease program, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) highlighted United Wind's energy financing programs within the organization's 2012 Market Report on Wind Technologies in Distributed Applications report. The detailed report hails the company's financing model for reducing upfront costs while underscoring the value of supporting the development of distributed wind projects in the rural and farm markets.

"Retail electricity costs have outpaced inflation consistently for the last 20 years according to the US Energy Information Administration. With WindLease, our customers are now empowered to lock in their rates and save significantly on energy costs for the next 20 years," said Russell Tencer, CEO and Co-Founder, United Wind. "Our partnership with Bergey enables us to provide affordable leasing options to more customers, expanding the footprint of distributed wind."

As part of the agreement, United Wind will lease Bergey WindPower's BWC Excel 10 primarily to residential and farm customers. The BWC Excel 10 is the best-selling turbine of its size class in the world and is known for its high reliability, low maintenance, and low wind speed performance.

"This will be great news to the thousands of homeowners, farmers and small businesses that have wanted to install a Bergey 10 kW wind turbine, but who couldn't afford the upfront costs," said Mike Bergey, President of Bergey WindPower. "United Wind's WindLease program will unlock a huge segment of our market that we've been missing. This is an exciting partnership for us and I believe a bright new day for the American small wind turbine industry."
