Universal Detection Technology Addresses Bioterrorism Threat to National Security at ASIS 2010

UDT to Exhibit Chemical and Biological Equipment in Wake of White Powder Threats to Houston Schools

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - October 12, 2010) -  Universal Detection Technology (OTCBB: UNDT), a developer of early-warning monitoring technologies and counter-terrorism training programs to protect people from bioterrorism and other infectious health threats, announced today that it will be showcasing its biological and chemical detection equipment at ASIS International 2010 in Dallas, Texas.

Universal Detection Technology's biological detection kits are certified by DHS as an "Approved Product for Homeland Security" under the Support Anti-terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies (SAFETY) Act of 2002. The Company's kits are the industry's only hand-held assay designed to detect and identify up to five separate threats using one sample in a single, easy-to-use device. The kits equip first responders with an effective tool for the rapid onsite detection of up to five biological warfare agents: anthrax, ricin, botulinum toxin, Y. pestis (plague) and Staphylococcal Enterotoxin B (SEB). Detection time is under three minutes.

"Since the anthrax attacks of 2001, the Nation has seen firsthand the reality and the severity of a potential attack with biological and chemical weapons. As recently as yesterday several schools in Houston have been threatened by suspicious white powder being discovered in the mail," said Jacques Tizabi, CEO of Universal Detection Technology. "With our equipment first responders can quickly and effectively test the suspicious material for the presence of chemical or biological weapons."

Universal Detection Technology will showcase its products at booth #4325 at the event, held on October 12-15, 2010 in Dallas, Texas. Members of UDT's executive team, including R&D and business development, will be present to answer questions about the product and the company.

Universal Detection Technology's biodetection kits have been used extensively by first responders, government agencies and private industry throughout the country. Recently, UDT received a contract from the U.S. Army to use the kits at an intelligence site. The company also signed a distribution pact with Strategic Response Initiatives. The equipment's capacities feature the following:

  • No cross-reactivity with near neighbor strains
  • No cross-reactivity to household powders
  • No set up time
  • No expensive reader needed
  • No decontamination requirements
  • No false positives
  • No false negatives
  • No hook effect
