Universal Lubricants® Asks Motorists, Fleet Owners and Auto Service Shops to Think Green During National Car Care Month

Take the Eco Ultra® Oil Change Pledge to Help the Environment and Your Engine

WICHITA, KS--(Marketwired - Apr 9, 2013) - April is National Car Care Month, a time when motorists are instructed on basic maintenance procedures to ensure their vehicles run at peak performance for the summer driving season. Universal Lubricants® (, manufacturer and distributor of the Eco Ultra® ( line of sustainable lubricants, today asked motorists, service professionals and fleet owners to "think green" and protect the environment while improving engine performance and saving money by adding motor oils made from re-refined base oil to their shopping lists.

"A motor oil change is the most pivotal element of any engine tune-up," said Universal Lubricants' Technical Services Manager Mike Wyant. "It's common knowledge engine oils get old and need to be replaced with fresh, new oil to protect vehicle investments and keep engines running in tip-top shape. What many motorists don't know, however, is that it's the additives that get old. The base oil never wears out and can be recovered, processed and re-refined into high quality base oil in an infinitely repeatable, sustainable cycle. This 'green' base oil is then blended with high performance additives to create finished, high-quality lubricants for consumer and commercial vehicles. Motorists and fleet owners who choose environmentally-friendly lubricants like Eco Ultra® Synthetic Blend Engine Oils during National Car Care Month can make a good practice even better."

Eco Ultra is certified by the American Petroleum Institute to meet or exceed SAE requirements and OEM specifications. Universal Lubricants' state-of-the-art additive package reduces engine and ring wear, extends drain intervals and reduces oil consumption. The result is savings for consumers and commercial operators.

Last month, Universal Lubricants asked Americans to help the environment by taking the 30-Day Eco Ultra Oil Change Pledge to replace every standard oil change with a "green" Eco Ultra oil change between St. Patrick's Day and Earth Day this year. The company said its re-refined products help the environment in three ways:

1. Saves energy: Re-refining used oil requires up to 89% less energy than refining from virgin crude.
2. Reduces harmful emissions: Re-refining used oil releases up to 65% fewer harmful emissions than refining from virgin crude.
3. Prevents ground water pollution: Putting used motor oil into the re-refining cycle eliminates the danger that comes from improper disposal; one gallon of improperly disposed motor oil can contaminate one million gallons of ground water.

About 1.3 billion gallons of oil are used in the U.S. each year, but only about 10-15 percent of that oil is repurposed. By taking the 30-day Eco Ultra Oil Change Pledge, Americans will build awareness for products made from these "green" base oils and help prevent improper disposal and damage to the environment.
