University and College Bookstores Go Pink

22 university and college bookstores across Canada partner with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation

KINGSTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 30, 2009) - 22 university and college bookstores have partnered with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation for a second year to raise money to support breast cancer research by selling a 'breast aware' t-shirt on October 1, 2009.

"Campus Bookstores are usually known for selling textbooks, but we do so much more" states Brent Beatty General Manager of the University of Calgary Bookstore. "We thought that an excellent way to highlight just how much we contribute to our campus communities was to pool our resources in support of a great cause." Each of the 22 stores is committed to selling the breast aware t-shirt. With the exception of printing, shipping and t-shirt costs ALL of the money collected will go directly to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. None of the stores is realising a profit from these t-shirts.

"The Foundation is thrilled to partner with the 22 university bookstores across Canada not only to raise much needed funds for breast cancer research and education, but also to share breast health knowledge with university students", says Mark Hierlihy, Director of Development, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Central Office. As part of the project, a bookmark will be available to students providing risk reduction messaging and in-store monitors will display information about breast health and breast cancer in Canada.

The 22 university bookstores that will be participating in this awareness program launching on October 1st include: Brock University, Concordia University, University of Toronto, Queen's University, University of Calgary, Ryerson University, Vancouver Island University, University of British Columbia, University of Victoria, Grant MacEwan University, McMaster University, University of Manitoba, McGill University, Mount Royal University, University of Western Ontario, Guelph University, University of Saskatchawan, Wilfrid Laurier University, University of Alberta, University of Waterloo, Thompson Rivers University and York University.

When asked why choose Breast Cancer as this year's cause, Brent Beatty of The University of Calgary Bookstore stated, "We chose breast cancer research and awareness because it touches individuals of all ages. Last year, "The Shirt, The Cause, The Day" was so well received on campuses across the country, we knew we had to hold it again this October."

The project titled 'the shirt, the cause, the day' is being launched in campus bookstores across Canada on October 1st, 2009. T-shirts will retail for $10.00 plus applicable taxes.

Established in 1986, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is the leading national volunteer-based organization in Canada dedicated to creating a future without breast cancer.
