University of Calgary: New study on oil and gas royalty rates reveals unexpected results

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Sept. 13, 2011) - The Alberta government's 2009 New Royalty Framework was a major bump in the road for the Stelmach government. Rarely does regulation meet with such a passionate response. Conventional oil and gas sectors cried foul, while companies in the oil sands seemed to quickly accept the new royalty arrangement.

What has the long-term impact of the royalty review been both for oil sands producers and the Alberta government? Professor Ken McKenzie of The School of Public Policy will release a ground-breaking analysis of the long-term impacts of the royalty review.

Professor McKenzie, who was a member of the 2007 Royalty Review Panel, will also discuss whether rates on conventional oil and gas should be reconsidered based on how the oil sands have been affected.
