University Engineering Students Compete to Win the Eighth Annual Knovel University Challenge

2013 Competition Gives Students an Opportunity to Explore Knovel's New Platform and Offers More Ways to Win Prizes Including Samsung Chromebooks

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Sep 10, 2013) - Students around the world are ready to compete in the Eighth Annual University Challenge, hosted by Knovel, a leader in providing a cloud-based application that integrates technical information with analytical and search tools.

In addition to competing for individual grand prizes of Samsung Chromebooks, students will also vie for weekly prizes and the "contest within a contest." The University Challenge will take place on the new Knovel platform, giving students the opportunity to explore Knovel's new features, improved navigation and answer centric design.

The Challenge continues to grow in popularity among engineering students globally. It is an excellent resource for faculty and university library staff who want to introduce future engineers to top-notch resources and teach students how to research, problem-solve and prepare for a competitive workforce. For example, last year more than 350 students from Engineering Librarian Nancy Schiller's program at the University at Buffalo participated in the University Challenge.

The Knovel University Challenge presents a series of questions on engineering-related topics including questions contributed from three college professors. Students are encouraged to use Knovel to find the correct answers. Prizes are awarded weekly to students of top-participating universities and at the conclusion of the contest. Chances to win include:

  • A Grand Prize Drawing for two Samsung Chromebooks selected from all eligible entries.
  • Weekly Drawings for Roku 3 Streaming Media Players from the pool of student entries that week.
  • The first 10 universities with 100 players join a contest-within-the-contest, with one student participant from each university winning a Pebble Smartwatch.
  • A new Top School prize of a $500 pizza party for the winning university.

The deadline for Grand Prize entries is Midnight on December 1, 2013.

More than 700 organizations worldwide use Knovel, including more than 450 universities. Current engineering and science students from these schools can learn more, register and participate at www.knoveluniversitychallenge.com.
