University of Kansas Selects BlueArc as Technology Platform for New Research Effort in $40 Million Facility

Titan System to Serve as Central Point Bringing Together 15 Laboratories; Storage Requirements Expected to Grow Dramatically

SAN JOSE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- June 13, 2006 -- BlueArc® Corporation, the world leader in network storage innovation, today announced that the University of Kansas (KU) has selected the company's Titan storage system as the central data repository for the KU Center for Research (KUCR). Titan will operate as the technology platform for the university's new research facility and will serve the needs of multiple groups, ranging from engineering to biotechnology to the university's KU Cancer Center.

In an effort to attract world-class scientists and provide critical space for specialized research in life sciences and other fields, KU recently unveiled its new Multidisciplinary Research Building. The building will be the new collaborative working environment for 180 researchers and faculty who specialize in a wide array of scientific disciplines including chemistry, geology and pharmacology. KUCR needed a storage solution tailored to the specific needs of researchers with a central point of access, superior support, security and performance and a solution that was future-proof.

BlueArc's Titan was deployed at the core of the building's technology infrastructure and it is expected to handle the school's accelerating data growth as researchers and departments come on line. For KU, which is aiming to advance the university's role in the world's academic research community, Titan was installed as the first step in providing a viable, leading edge technology infrastructure, supporting collaboration across interdisciplinary boundaries.

"We are excited about the new building and the opportunity to foster innovation by bringing together disparate research groups on campus," said Rebecca Ryan, manager of network and information systems for KUCR. "Titan provides us with a high performance, flexible solution that will allow us to expand our research efforts many times over without ever having to worry about capacity running out."

"BlueArc is at the heart of many of the world's leading research and academic facilities," said Steve Daheb, vice president of marketing and business development for BlueArc. "Titan directly addresses the needs of storage environments that require unrestricted capacity found at many research facilities as well as in the enterprise."
