University of Calgary: Prepare for the fair

Sold-out Science and Engineering Career Fair reflects strong local job market

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Sept. 19, 2011) - On Tuesday, Sept. 20, the Science and Engineering Career Fair will be held at the University of Calgary. Hosted by the university's Career Services, the day-long event gives students the chance to connect with employers, explore career options, and discover the wide variety of available opportunities.

The fair is designed to aid in the recruitment cycle of many large firms that hire in the fall for the following summer.

Reflecting the upturn in Calgary's job market, especially in the energy sector, exhibit spaces for this year's fair have been completely sold out with 129 employers coming to campus to recruit students. That's a 25 per cent increase in employer participants over last year.

Some of the companies attending include: Baker Hughes Canada, Chevron, ConocoPhillips Canada Resources Corp., Fekete Associates, General Electric, Hemisphere GPS iStockphoto and Nexen.

What: Science and Engineering Career Fair

When: Tuesday, Sept. 20, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Where: Upper Track, Jack Simpson Gym, Kinesiology B building

Who: Students in all levels of education and employers
