University of Ottawa Gee-Gees Bound for 2009 CIS Men's Basketball Championship

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 7, 2009) - The University of Ottawa Gee-Gees men's basketball team has qualified for the 2009 CIS men's basketball championship - the Final 8, presented by Milk, following its Ontario University Athletics (OUA) bronze medal victory over the No. 8-ranked University of Windsor Lancers 73-59 earlier this evening at Montpetit Hall in Ottawa.

The No. 3-ranked Gee-Gees join OUA finalists (No. 1-ranked Carleton University Ravens) and the No. 4-ranked University of Western Ontario Mustangs in next weekend's Final 8 at Scotiabank Place. The tournament, held annually to determine Canadian basketball supremacy, tips off at 12:30 p.m. on March 13 at Scotiabank Place. Carleton defeated Western Ontario 71-57 in the OUA final on Saturday afternoon in London, Ont.

All individual game tickets are now on-sale and being sold as part of double-headers, which start with quarter-final games on Friday, March 13, at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. With games scheduled for 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., the Friday evening double-header will feature the host Ravens playing their first game of the tournament in the nightcap.

Friday's games at the CIS championship are single elimination matchups with the four winners advancing to Saturday evening's semi-final double-header games at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The consolation semi-final double-header takes place earlier on Saturday with games at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The lone Sunday double-header features the consolation final game for fifth place at 1:30 p.m. and the championship game at 4 p.m. All five double-headers (10 games in total) will take place at Ottawa's Scotiabank Place.

Individual double-header tickets include entry to both games and start at $10 per ticket. Full tournament packages (which include a ticket to each of the 10 tournament games) are currently on sale and available starting at $50 per package.
