The University of Western Ontario Deploys Network Chemistry Solution to Secure and Manage Campus-Wide Wireless Network

Leading Research University Uses RFprotect to Enable Secure Wireless Network Deployment and Reduce IT Help Desk Support Costs

REDWOOD CITY, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 19, 2006 -- Network Chemistry, the wireless security experts, announced today that The University of Western Ontario has deployed its RFprotect™ Distributed wireless intrusion detection and protection system to provide security and management capabilities for the university's wireless network. Deploying Network Chemistry's solution allows Western to reduce overall IT costs while ensuring students have secure access to the wireless network. The University has deployed the solution in several buildings on campus including the main library and has plans to add additional coverage.

One of the top 10 research universities in Canada with more than 32,000 students, Western's IT department rolled out a campus-wide wireless network to provide always-on connectivity that is simple and secure for students to use. To improve the success of this deployment, Western required a wireless security solution that could prevent ad-hoc connections that compromise security and often result in students getting dropped from the network. By preventing this activity, the staff expects to reduce the number of calls to the IT help desk and the costs associated with handling those calls. In addition, the university wanted advanced monitoring capabilities and increased visibility into the performance and coverage of the wireless network. The solution was delivered through Network Chemistry partner Channel Management International Inc. and FoxNet Solutions.

"We were looking for a wireless security solution that could help us set policies that would ensure our students obtain simple and reliable access to the wireless network, while at the same time allowing us to cut overall IT costs," said Denis Regnier, associate director of IT at Western. "We reviewed a range of vendors and selected Network Chemistry because the RFprotect solution automated our policy enforcement and protection against ad-hoc networks, gave us the insight necessary to fully monitor our wireless coverage where deployed, and offered a low total cost of ownership."

Network Chemistry's patent-pending technology and RFprotect family of products provide a complete solution that seamlessly integrates with enterprise network, WLAN and security systems. RFprotect Distributed is a 24/7 wireless monitoring and intrusion prevention system for protecting against wireless threats in and around enterprise facilities. RFprotect Scanner is a network-based vulnerability management solution focused on rogue wireless device detection and automated remediation and is the ideal solution for organizations that need to cost effectively enforce 'no wireless' policies. RFprotect Mobile is a portable laptop-based analyzer for automating site surveys, security assessments, and incident response. Finally, RFprotect Endpoint protects mobile devices on the road by actively enforcing policy to thwart threats and prohibit risky wireless configurations.

"By leveraging the RFprotect platform, Western can continue pursuing their key goals of ensuring simple, secure wireless access for their students, reducing IT costs and improving their ability to manage the network," said T. Paul Thomas, CEO at Network Chemistry. "Western is yet another example of how Network Chemistry's solutions are being leveraged as a critical enabler for the secure deployment and ongoing management of wireless networks by the largest educational institutions, leading enterprises, and demanding government agencies."
