Applications to vote by special ballot for electors who are temporarily outside Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River, Toronto Centre, Vancouver Quadra or Willowdale during the by-elections must reach Elections Canada in Ottawa before 6:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) on Tuesday, March 11, 2008. Qualified electors inside their electoral district wishing to vote by special ballot must make sure their applications reach the returning officer by 6:00 p.m. (local time) on Tuesday, March 11, 2008.

However, to obtain a special ballot voting kit more quickly, it is highly recommended that electors visit the local Elections Canada office before 6:00 p.m. (local time) on Tuesday, March 11, 2008.

"We have taken steps to respond as quickly as possible to the demand for last-minute registration," said Mr. Mayrand. "We ask these electors to watch for the arrival of the voting kit in the mail so that they, in turn, can deal with it as quickly as possible."

An elector voting by special ballot from outside Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River, Toronto Centre, Vancouver Quadra or Willowdale must ensure that the completed ballot arrives at Elections Canada in Ottawa no later than 6:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) on election day, Monday, March 17, 2008. An elector voting by special ballot inside their electoral district must ensure that the returning officer receives the completed ballot before the local polling stations close on election day.

Elections Canada reminds electors that they may also vote at the advance polls on Friday, March 7, Saturday, March 8 and Monday, March 10.
