UPDATE: Bay Area Plastic Surgeon on Cosmetic Surgery for the Ages: How to Shine in One's 30s

Dr. Lauren Greenberg Discusses Common Concerns and the Procedures Her Thirty-Something Patients Undergo

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwire - Nov 20, 2012) - As part of her series of age-related tips for patients looking for the right cosmetic enhancement for their needs, Dr. Lauren Greenberg, a board-certified plastic surgeon in the Bay Area and avid blogger, has released the next installment of Cosmetic Surgery for the Ages to help her patients in their thirties look and feel confident. Dr. Greenberg has narrowed down several aesthetic procedures, both surgical and nonsurgical, that patients in their thirties commonly pursue at her practice following an in-depth consultation.

Dr. Greenberg says patients in their thirties begin to recognize the natural effects of the aging process, particularly around the eyes. She says many patients enter her Bay Area plastic surgery practice curious about changes in their face -- particularly wrinkles they have started to notice -- but are not candidates yet for the facelift procedure. When discussing their aesthetic concerns and goals, Dr. Greenberg says most patients recognize their concern is with looking tired: "Aging doesn't happen all at once, it's a gradual progression. Women look in the mirror and feel like they are looking their age or are looking tired all the time, which is upsetting."

For patients who are not ready for a surgical procedure or simply do not need one, Dr. Greenberg says she recommends two procedures depending on the individual needs of the patient. The first treatment is BOTOX® Cosmetic, which Dr. Greenberg says is popular for a reason: "BOTOX is a great nonsurgical way to address the wrinkles of the forehead, area between your eyebrows, and the crows feet around the eyes."

The second is the liquid facelift, using soft tissue fillers like Juvederm™, Restylane™, and Sculptra®, which can be used to address deepening wrinkles and aging in the following areas:

  • Temple area
  • Lines around the mouth
  • Hollow under the eye

With both procedures, Dr. Greenberg says the goal is to brighten the patients' facial aesthetic and highlight their natural beauty and vibrancy. She adds the nonsurgical approach is more common than most of her patients realize: "Patients come in and feel like their friends look good for their age. After discussing their nonsurgical options, many come to realize their friends may have been undergoing a combination of nonsurgical treatments to combat the signs of aging."

Dr. Greenberg stresses the importance of skin care first and foremost. This includes the use of sunscreen, exfoliation like glycolic skin pads, antioxidants, and Retinol and Rentin A products. Patients in their thirties and forties represent 80% of her patient base, and for the most part they still have healthy and vibrant skin which can be supported with the right skin care.

Some patients may feel ready for a surgical procedure such as eyelid surgery, though Dr. Greenberg says many can wait until their forties for this procedure. The most common surgical procedures for women in their thirties according to Dr. Greenberg are surgical procedures to address areas of their bodies affected by motherhood. Whether this type of treatment plan involves a breast augmentation, liposuction, tummy tuck, or a combination of procedures known as the mommy makeover, Dr. Greenberg says this set of patients figures they might as well address these concerns now so they can enjoy the results for the next 20-30 years.
