Update: Century Aluminum Subsidiary and Steelworkers Tentative Agreement

MONTEREY, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 2, 2006 -- Century Aluminum of Kentucky, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Century Aluminum Company (NASDAQ: CENX), announced that the tentative agreement reached with the United Steelworkers covering production and maintenance employees at its Hawesville, KY smelter was not ratified in voting on Monday, May 1, 2006. The parties have agreed to extend their previous deadline to permit further discussions.

Century presently owns 615,000 metric tones per year of primary aluminum capacity in the United States and Iceland, as well as an ownership stake in alumina and bauxite assets in the United States and Jamaica. Century's corporate offices are located in Monterey, California.
