Update: Extendicare Brampton Becomes Canada's Premier Centre of IT Innovation

BRAMPTON, ONTRAIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 12, 2008) - Extendicare Brampton launched their IT centre of innovation today, which will allow staff to spend less time on paper work, and more time providing hands on care to their residents.

"This is a very exciting day for us," said Carmen DiMauro, Administrator of the home. "It has been a great journey to get to this point and we look forward to using this new technology to improve the lives of our residents."

In partnership with leading long-term care vendors, Extendicare introduced new and industry proven technology to enhance the delivery of care and communication throughout their home.

"This initiative is the way of the future," added Amrit Mangat, the local MPP for Mississauga Brampton South and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister Responsible for Seniors. "I am proud that our community is one of the first to embrace it. This technology will give staff the ability to spend more time providing quality care to their residents."

These initiatives include a Cisco wireless network, PointClickCare's Electronic Health Record system including wall-mounted touch panels and handheld capture devices, Electronic Medical Administration Record (e-MAR) systems, nurse call system integration with a wireless VOIP phone system, employee kiosk-based biometric scheduling and Extranet portal systems, RFID tracking, and many other applications.
