Update: Fandor and Microcinema International Launch Coordinated Premiere of "Sleep Furiously"

Release an Industry First; Available at Fandor.com for 24 Hours on July 29, Coinciding With North American Theatrical Release in New York City

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 30, 2011) - Fandor, the on-demand provider of exceptional independent and international films, along with distributor Microcinema International, today announced the U.S. theatrical and digital premiere of the award-winning Welsh documentary "Sleep Furiously," which first screened in the U.S. at the renowned Telluride Film Festival. "Sleep Furiously" is the second film to be released under Fandor's pioneering "coordinated premiere" program. The movie will be released on July 29 at New York City's Cinema Village theater and on Fandor.

Fandor will show "Sleep Furiously" online for an exclusive window of 24 hours on July 29 so viewers can log in to see the film during this day-long event. The film will be accompanied by "A Sketchbook for the Library Van," the 50-minute documentary featurette from 2005 that served as the genesis for "Sleep Furiously." It will remain in the Fandor catalog and available for viewing on an ongoing basis for subscribers who want to see the charming backstory behind "Sleep Furiously."

"The Fandor platform gives us the flexibility to program films in ways that meet our distribution needs," said Joel Bachar, president and founder, Microcinema International. "The coordinated premiere concept is a great way to create new audiences for independent films."

The coordinated theatrical and digital premiere distribution model, an industry first, empowers filmmakers and distributors by providing flexibility and versatility over how, when and where they release films on the digital streaming service. "Sleep Furiously" is the second film to be released under the coordinated theatrical and digital premiere distribution model. After its initial theatrical debut in New York City, "Sleep Furiously" will travel the country at a selection of theaters throughout the rest of 2011.

"Digital distribution is today's reality," said Dan Aronson, Fandor co-founder and CEO. "Our flexible platform delivers additional revenue opportunities as well as helping distributors build momentum for independent films."

About "Sleep Furiously"
"Sleep Furiously" is director Gideon Koppel's award-winning 2008 UK documentary set in a small farming community in mid Wales, about 50 miles north of Dylan Thomas' fictional village of Llareggub. There is a sense in which this is a film "for" Dylan Thomas, if not a contemporary translation of "Under Milk Wood." This is a place where Koppel's parents -- both Jewish refugees -- found a home. It is a landscape and population that is changing rapidly as small scale agriculture is disappearing and the generation who inhabited a pre-mechanized world is dying out. Gideon Koppel leads us on a poetic journey into a world of endings and beginnings; a world of stuffed owls, sheep and fire. "Stunning beauty and bitter realities mix in a rich new documentary." - Guardian (UK)
