HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - Aug 21, 2012) - Smith & Associates Far East Limited has gained CCAP-101 Certification. Components that are CCAP-01 certified by Smith's Hong Kong logistics hub, Smith & Associates Far East Limited, are inspected and tested under the supervision and control of Smith's CCAP-101 certified Houston Headquarters, N.F. Smith & Associates, LP. Smith Far East Limited will supply CCAP-101 certified components to original equipment manufacturers and contract manufacturers outside of North America, who request this certification. Smith's Houston Headquarters will continue to distribute CCAP-101 certified components, as requested, to customers globally, including North America.
Smith & Associates, the industry leader in global electronics distribution, today announces the certification of its Hong Kong operational hub to the Components Technology Institute, Inc. Counterfeit Components Avoidance Program (CCAP-101). The CCAP-101 establishes a set of standard procedures across the industry for authenticating electronic components that are ordered as CCAP-101 Certified, thereby reducing the risk of counterfeit parts components entering customers' supply chains.
As the first independent distributor to gain this certification for a subsidiary location outside of the United States, Smith is substantiating its global focus on quality. Smith's worldwide shipping and logistics hubs (located in Houston, Hong Kong, and Amsterdam) have industry-leading in-house testing labs to ensure that all customer components are processed with a consistently high level of quality control, and Smith's global headquarters in Houston has been certified to CCAP-101 since June of 2011. Gaining this certification for its Asian regional hub is another indicator of Smith's determination to ensure its high quality standards extend to every area of Smith's global reach.
"Through continuous growth and improvement, we've become a quality leader and earned certification to this intensive counterfeit detection program," for customers that specify it, said Kirk Wehby, Smith's Vice President of Global Operations. "Our Quality team has branched out, reviewing and learning the most current counterfeit detection techniques in fields from consumer electronics to military and aerospace. This certification of a new location is an affirmation of the stringent standards we hold to at all of our operational locations, as well as the hard work and expertise of our global Quality team."
"A key asset of the CCAP-101 Certification is that it assures customers that the counterfeit detection process we have in place is audited annually and confirmed effective by an outside company," added Chris Dang, Smith's Director of Global Quality Control. "This communicates to our customers that we have the newest technology in counterfeit detection equipment and the expert knowledge to fully utilize it to make sure that the parts they're getting are authentic. Smith & Associates Far East Limited's gaining of this certification demonstrates that our commitment to quality doesn't end at Smith's headquarters, but extends worldwide."
While the need to be vigilant of counterfeit components is a constant in the global electronics industry, certifications like the CCAP-101 help to raise industry awareness and the supply chain's defenses against counterfeit components. Smith & Associates is pleased to attain this certification for its Hong Kong hub, taking the first step to expanding the high quality standards of the CCAP-101 Certified Program beyond domestic boundaries and onto a global scale.
Smith & Associates Far East Limited will now join Smith's global headquarters in Houston on CTI's listing of Certified Independent Distributors.
