UPI ENERGY LP Supports the Canadian Propane Association's Efforts to Promote Propane as a Partner in the Canadian Sustainable Energy Strategy

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 8, 2011) - UPI Energy LP is proud to support The Canadian Propane Association (CPA) as it appears today at 5:00pm before the Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment & Natural Resources.

The Canadian Propane Association (CPA) is the national voice of the multi-million dollar Canadian propane industry. UPI Energy LP, is proud to support its efforts to ensure our industry is heard in the creation of a Canadian Sustainable Energy Strategy.

"Propane needs to be an active partner in a Canadian Sustainable Energy Strategy", says Jim Facette, President & CEO of the CPA. "Propane is available, affordable and versatile and with a 10 billion dollar impact on the Canadian economy each year and contributing, over 900 million in annual taxes and royalties, we need to be part of this conversation."

The committee, which aims to start a national conversation on what Canada's sustainable energy future looks like, invites government authorities, experts and stakeholders in specific energy and related sectors to explore key energy themes with the goal of moving towards a broadly based sustainable energy strategy.

"Propane is an extremely versatile energy source", says Robert P. Sicard, President & CEO, UPI Energy LP. "It can be used for a wide selection of applications that range from residential and commercial to agricultural. And not only is it clean-burning, it is widely available today."

Propane can be part of the solution to address some of the challenges and issues the committee has already discussed, such as the importance of addressing climate change by transitioning to a lower-carbon economy.

The committee also recognizes the important economic relationship between Canada and the United States. "Over the last five years, Canadian propane exports to the United States have accounted for roughly 60% of total Canadian propane production," says Mr. Facette. "Harmonizing our energy policy objectives, where practical, will enhance the competitiveness of Canada's propane industry by improving the flow of trade."
