UPN 57, Traffic.com Launch 'Wake UP News' Mornings 5-9 a.m. on WPSG-TV

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- June 7, 2005 -- UPN 57 (WPSG-TV) and Traffic.com, Inc., the leading independent provider of traffic data, have joined forces to introduce the Philadelphia market's most recent addition to the morning news line-up, UPN 57's Wake UP News, a fast-paced, headline traffic, weather and news service for the viewer on the go.

The newscast, which airs weekdays from 5 to 9 a.m., debuted Tuesday, May 31, live from Traffic.com's Wayne, Pennsylvania studios with Traffic Anchor Sean Murphy, News Anchor Karen Adams, and Meteorologist Melissa Sander. UPN 57's sister station, CBS 3 (KYW-TV), provides news content for the telecast.

"Wake UP News is a totally new hybrid of newscast," says CBS 3 and UPN 57 Vice President and News Director Susan Schiller. "It's not designed to compete with other morning newscasts but to serve a totally different morning news viewer -- the commuter who is primarily interested in that morning's traffic and weather conditions, but wants to leave the house with a basic understanding of the day's headlines." Wake UP News, Schiller says, also takes the news crawl to another level, incorporating specific weather and time information into the news crawl and adding a second crawl for exclusive traffic information.

Margaret Cronan, Traffic.com's Director of Programming, adds that the viewer is never more than five minutes away from the information they need. "We live in a fast-paced world. People wake up earlier, commute longer distances and spend more time in their cars. The goal of the newscast is to deliver non-stop traffic information, the latest weather, and the morning's headlines so commuters can get where they need to be on time and informed."

In addition to providing traffic information to broadcast media, Traffic.com provides real-time content to consumers via Web, mobile, and desktop applications. UPN 57 (WPSG-TV) is owned and operated by the Viacom Television Stations Group that now consists of 40 stations, including 21 CBS, 16 UPN and three stations not affiliated with the major networks.
