Uranium Stocks Post Huge Gains -- Will the Surge Continue?

The Bedford Report Provides Analyst Research on Uranium Resources & USEC

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - November 29, 2010) - Uranium stocks have been surging as of late with the spot price for uranium oxide surpassing the $60 per pound mark last week. According to the Global X Uranium ETF which was starter trading earlier this month, uranium provides about 16% of the world's electricity. Uranium bulls believe that the radioactive element is a clean resource alternative for electric generation. One pound of uranium can generate as much energy as 20,000 pounds of coal, and leaves behind a fraction of the carbon footprint. Earlier this month China's long-term planning agency announced that by 2020 it intended to raise nuclear power's share of the country's total energy production to 112 gigawatts, or 7 percent, up from the previous target of 70 gigawatts. At the moment China operates 11 reactors, and has 28 under construction; in the U.S., 104 are in operation.
