Urban Communications Inc. Lights Up "UniverCity" Development at Simon Fraser University With Service Up to 100 Mbps

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - March 7, 2007) - Urban Communications Inc. (TSX VENTURE:UBN) announces that its subsidiary, Urban Networks Inc., has launched its fibre optic based ultra high speed broadband Internet service to residential customers at UniverCity, the high density community development at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby. Urban's basic fibre to the home (FTTH) Internet service will commence on March 12, 2007, and has resulted in early customer penetration rates well ahead of projections.

Sales programs are underway to provide basic high speed service of 10 Mbps to the existing 1,100 residential units in the new community which, when completed will consist of 4,000 units in a spectacular setting next to one of British Columbia's major universities, surrounded by a 567 hectare conservation park. Urban customers have the option to receive dedicated service of up to 100 Mbps, the fastest residential service to be offered in Canada to date, with no annual contract commitments. Urban's Residential Fibre Power Plan is priced well below the competition and also provides access to a variety of unique a la carte applications.

Service is being provided to residential and commercial customers over Urban's 125 km. fibre optic network which is strategically situated through highly populated corridors in the metro Vancouver market. "Next generation services to be provided through our state-of-the-art fibre optic backbone network will satisfy growing customer demand and put Urban well ahead of competitors providing services over legacy copper circuits and cables," stated Leslie Maerov, Urban's CEO. "Service offerings will not only be lower priced than competitor offerings, but are optimized when transmitted over fibre to the home because of the non-compressed signal transmission speeds that can be provided using Urban's fibre optic backbone network technology."

Urban Networks will roll out a full array of services for customers to select a la carte, including voice over IP ("VoIP") within 30 days, followed by residential priced audio/video conferencing and interactive gaming before the end of the second quarter, and video on demand (VOD) movie service and full IP television service by year end.

Urban has been providing fibre optic telecommunications service since 2002 and continues to serve the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, B.C. Institute of Technology, University of Victoria, City of Vancouver, ministries and agencies of the Province of British Columbia and the Government of Canada, and E-Comm, the emergency services organization for southwest B.C.

Urban's management team was responsible for building much of the coaxial and fibre optic networks of Rogers, Shaw, AT&T, Group Telecom and Novus in the greater Vancouver area over the past 30 years, and has managed successful sales, customer service programs and customer installation programs for those companies and most recently for Bell ExpressVu. The company will now use its sales, marketing and customer service expertise to drive the roll out of its own service products and offerings.
