U.S. Air Force Academy Awards Contract to Mobilisa

High-Tech Security System, Defense ID®, to Guard Campus

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - August 30, 2007) - The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) recently awarded a contract to purchase the Defense ID® system from Mobilisa Inc., a leader in wireless and mobile technology. The Defense ID access control system uses a rugged handheld computer to quickly scan ID cards to support military security and law enforcement personnel and will be used as a first line of defense for preventing unwanted persons from gaining access to the base.

Major Chris Kelsoe, who commands the Academy's 10th Security Forces Squadron, said, "The security upgrade includes using handheld computers to check visitors' identification. The computer system will allow for quick checks to see if visitors are on terrorist watch lists or are wanted by the law."

USAFA is the Air Force's premier institution for developing and training new officers. The Academy is located at the base of Rampart Range Mountains near Colorado Springs on 18,500 acres. Approximately 1.5 million visitors come to the Academy annually, including up to 7,000 people per day at the Visitors Center. Attractions include the Cadet Chapel, Falcon Athletic Center and Stadium, Falcon Store gift shop, Arnold Hall Museum, and numerous hiking trails to the Stanley Canyon area.

Security for the USAFA is provided by the 10th Air Base Wing. The Wing recently issued a contract to Mobilisa for handheld ID scanners, training, support, and warranties.

Defense ID® is protecting dozens of federal and military installations to include the Army's U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY; Navy's Bangor Submarine Base in Silverdale, WA; Yuma Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, AZ; and Andrews Air Force Base -- home to Air Force One, in Washington, DC.

The information that is scanned from an identity card is compared to over 100+ databases of individuals who are wanted for criminal offenses or are barred from military installations. The system works with military IDs, U.S. and Canadian Drivers Licenses and other government ID cards and therefore does not require the government to issue special badges -- a major cost savings to the government. Defense ID® is credited in helping security personnel identify and prevent nearly 25,000 unauthorized individuals from gaining entry onto military and federal installations in the last two years.
